Our recent paper titled “Perceptual saccadic suppression starts in the retina” just received an EXCEPTIONAL rating from Faculty Opinions (formerly known as F1000Prime)!
In that study, we related a highly robust perceptual phenomenon in vision to mechanisms in the retina, before any further processing takes place in the rest of the brain.
These results were surprising, especially because this phenomenon is often viewed from the perspective of how the rest of the brain may actively be involved in it.
Our results questioned this, and they set the stage for very interesting additional research questions! Read more about this here.
And, definitely do stay tuned for some really exciting follow up studies from our lab on this topic, both in terms of unraveling the retinal circuit mechanisms of the original phenomenon, as well as in terms of new related visual perceptual effects that we are now discovering!
