We published a new Dispatch article in Current Biology.
In this article, we described recent results in the rodent superior colliculus out of the laboratory of Dr. Karl Farrow, which investigated visual field representations in this brain structure.
Comparing properties in rodent and primate superior colliculus is very important, because it is likely that principles governing superior colliculus structural and functional organization in the different organisms can teach us something more general about human superior colliculus.
It is also interesting that visual representations in the superior colliculus are being revealed, because this structure was historically viewed as a motor structure, with minimal visual processing. But, it turns out, that the superior colliculus has its very own “vision for orienting”!
